I am dealing with proceedings which were commenced by X Local Authority on 8th January 2010. The proceedings relate to two girls, GG, who will soon be 12 years old, and AG, who is nine. Proceedings were commenced because of disclosures made about activities which were inappropriate. It is accepted that the threshold for making an order it met. |
Various assessments have been carried out during the proceedings. Those have concluded that, unfortunately, the children’s mother, who is the First Respondent, HG, cannot currently meet their needs and cannot care for them. She, through her solicitor, Miss Taylor, accepts that position and accepts that the children should remain with and be cared for by her parents, K and PG. |
The children have been with Mr and Mrs G for some time, and it is right to say that there were some reservations early on in the proceedings about whether they could stay with Mr and Mrs G, but those have dissipated and it is now agreed that the girls are well cared for by their grandparents, the grandparents having undertaken various pieces of work to enable them to care safely for the grandchildren. I commend them for taking on the care of the girls, for standing by them, for taking part in these proceedings and now being willing to offer them a long term placement in their home. It is right to say that there were some difficulties between the grandparents and the mother at one point. Those seem to have been resolved to some extent, and I am told that the grandparents are now facilitating the mother’s contact. |
I commend the social worker for her good practice in this case. That is not a phrase which this Court is often able to use sadly, but this case has been worked very well. I thank the Guardian also for her input and her report. |
So finally I make care orders placing the children in the care of the Local Authority, but with the care plan that they should remain with their maternal grandparents. Again, I thank Mr and Mrs G on the girl’s behalf for taking on their care and showing that commitment to them. |
I make no order for costs, save public funding assessment. Thank you very much. |
