In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by the definition of "registered health care professional" in section 65(1) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984[
1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:
1.
This Order may be cited as the Registered Health Care Profession (Designation) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st November 2003.
2.
The profession of paramedics, being a profession mentioned in section 60(2) of the Health Act 1999[
2], by virtue of being regulated by the Health Professions Order 2001[
3] is hereby designated as a health care profession[
4] for the purposes of the definition of "registered health care professional" in section 65(1) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order enables, from 1st November 2003, paramedics registered under Part 8 of the register maintained under the Health Professions Order 2001 by the Health Professions Council to take samples under section 62 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

Health care profession is defined in section 65(1A) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 as any profession mentioned in section 60(2) of the Health Act 1999 (c. 8) other than the profession of practising medicine and the profession of nursing.back
