NURSES, MIDWIVES AND HEALTH VISITORS

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22(4) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979(1), I hereby approve the Rules made by the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and set out in the Schedule hereto.
This Order may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Registered Fever Nurses and Nurses with Orthopaedic and Ophthalmic Qualifications) Amendment Rules Approval Order 1991 and shall come into force on 13th January 1992.

The United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Sections 2(3) and (4) and 22(1) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, having, in accordance with Section 22(3) of the Act, consulted the National Boards and representatives of groups of persons likely to be affected by these Rules, hereby makes the following Rules:-
1.-(1) These Rules may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Registered Fever Nurses and Nurses with Orthopaedic and Ophtalmic Qualifications) Amendment Rules 1991.
(2) In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires, "the principal Rules" means the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Rules 1983(2).
2.-(1) The principal Rules shall be amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this Rule.
(2) In Rule 14(1) sub-paragraph (b) shall be amended by substituting "5, 8 or 9" for "5 or 8".
(3) In Rule 14(2) for sub-paragraph (b) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph-
"(b)where the person concerned is registered in Part 2, 4, 6 or 7 of the register, or holds-
(i)the Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate, or the Diploma of Orthopaedic Nursing awarded by the former Joint Examination Board of the British Orthopaedic Association and the Central Council for the Disabled or by the former Joint Examination Board of the British Orthopaedic Association and the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation, or
(ii)the Certificate of Proficiency, or Ophthalmic Nursing Diploma, awarded by the former Ophtalmic Nursing Board,
not less than one year".
(4) In Rule 14A sub-paragraph (a) of paragraph (8) shall be amended by inserting "9," between "8," and "12".

The Rules approved by this Order, and made by the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, further amend the Rules approved by the Nurses, Midwives and Visitors Rules Approval Order 1983 ("the principal Rules") as they relate tothe training of nurses.
Rules 14(1) and 14A(8) of the principal Rules are amended to provide that a person registered as a fever nurse who seeks admission to Part 1, 3, 5, 8, 12, 13, 14 or 15 of the register need complete only one year's further training (Rule 2(2) and (4)), and Rule 14(2) of the principal Rules is amended to enable persons holding certain qualifications in orthopaedic or ophthalmic nursing to be eligible for admission to Part 2, 4, 6 or 7 of the register after only one year's further training (Rule 2(3)).
