The Motor Vehicles Testing (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012

The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 61(2) and (6) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1).

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicle Testing (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and shall come into operation on 1st May 2012.

(2) In these Regulations the "principal Regulations" means the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003(2).

Amendment to Schedule 2 (the prescribed statutory requirements for vehicles in Classes I and II)

2. In paragraph 2(c) of Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations after item 28 in the table add-

"28A21 and 26Hazard Warning Signals
28B21 and 26Side Marker Lamps
28C21 and 26End Outline Marker Lamps"

Amendment to Schedule 3 (condition of vehicles)

3. In Schedule 3 to the principal Regulations for "entrances and exits." substitute-

"entrances and exits;

supplementary restraint systems;

electronic stability control systems.".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Motor Vehicle Testing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 to comply with Commission Directive 2010/48/EU by amending paragraph 2(c) of Schedule 2 to insert references to hazard warning signals and side marker lamps and end outline marker lamps in the items to be tested. Schedule 3 is also amended to add supplementary restraint systems and electronic stability control systems to the list of items to which regard is given during an examination.
