TOURIST TRAFFIC (AMENDMENT) ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1966 - SECT 8

Statistical information about tourist industry.

8.(1) The Ministry may

(a)collect, or cause to be collected, any statistics and information; and

(b)carry out, or cause to be carried out, any survey;

(2) The Ministry may, for the purpose of obtaining facts relating to the
tourist industry or any class or section of that industry make a scheme
requiring persons of a class specified in the scheme (being persons who
provide facilities or services for persons travelling to or in, Northern
Ireland, whether or not those facilities and services are also intended for
use by other persons)

(a)to furnish returns and other information, and to produce for examination on
behalf of the Ministry, books and other documents in their custody or under
their control; and

(b)to keep records and to produce them for examination as mentioned in
paragraph (a).

(3) Any person who fails to comply with a requirement made under a scheme by
virtue of subsection (2) shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not
exceeding twenty-five pounds.

(4) Any person who

(a)in furnishing any information for the purposes of a scheme made under
subsection (2), makes a statement which he knows to be false in a material
particular or recklessly makes a statement which is false in a material
particular; or

(b)wilfully makes a false entry in any document which is required to be
produced in pursuance of a scheme made under subsection (2);

(5) The Ministry may publish, or permit the publication of, any statistics or
information collected, or the results of any survey carried out, by or on
behalf of the Ministry under subsection (1) or any information obtained by
the Ministry in pursuance of the powers conferred by subsection (2).

(6) The Ministry shall not disclose, or permit the disclosure of, any
information obtained under this section except

(a)in the form of a summary of information so obtained from a number of
persons being a summary so framed as not to enable particulars relating to any
one person or undertaking to be ascertained from it; or

(b)with the consent of the person by whom the information was furnished.

(7) A scheme made under subsection (2) shall be subject to affirmative
resolution.
