TOWNS IMPROVEMENT (IRELAND) ACT 1854 - SECT 43

Party walls of new buildings to be carried up through the roof.

43. The party walls of all buildings [erected in any place after this Act
comes into operation] shall be carried through and above the roof, to form a
parapet of not less than twelve inches in height, measured at right angles
with the slope of the roof, above the covering of the roof of the highest
building to which such party walls belong; and every person who shall erect
any building contrary to the provision herein contained, and who shall not
alter the same within one month after notice given to him for that purpose by
the [district council], shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding [#20 and an
additional penalty of #2 for every day that such building shall so continue].
