MAGISTRATES' COURTS ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1964 - SECT 122

Issue, postponement or stay of execution of decrees in debt and ejectment proceedings.

122.(1) If any person attending or brought before a magistrates' court refuses
without just excuse to be sworn or give evidence, or to produce any document
or thing, the court may commit him to custody until the expiration of such
period not exceeding eight days as may be specified in the warrant or until he
sooner gives evidence or produces the document or thing.

(2) Nothing in this section shall prevent the court from disposing of a case
in any manner in which it has power to do so.

(3) Where after being committed to custody a witness still refuses to be sworn
or give evidence or produce any document or thing he may be recommitted where
necessary from time to time for a further period not exceeding eight days
provided that no witness in summary proceedings shall be imprisoned for longer
than a total period of one month.

Postponement of issue of warrants or decrees until appeal determined.
