CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS ACT (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1968 - SECT 78

Power of Minister to send certain juvenile offenders to training schools.

78.(1) The Minister may by order direct that

Para.(a) rep. by 1980 NI 10 art.4(3) sch.3

(b)a child or young person with respect to whom he is authorised to give
directions under section 73(2); or

(c)a young person who has been ordered to be imprisoned or to be detained in a
young offenders centre and has been pardoned by the Governor on condition of
his agreeing to undergo training in a school;

(2) The date to be specified under subsection (1) shall be not later than that
on which the person will in the opinion of the Minister attain the age of
nineteen, nor shall it be later

Para.(a) rep. by 1980 NI 10 art.4(3) sch.3

(b)in the case of a person who was sentenced to detention under section 73(2),
than the date on which his detention would have expired;

(c)in the case of a young person who has been sentenced to imprisonment or to
be detained in a young offenders centre and pardoned as aforesaid, than three
years from the date as from which his sentence began to run.
