SOCIAL WELFARE (MODIFICATIONS OF INSURANCE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 1971. |

The Minister for Social Welfare in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Sections 3 and 12 of the Social Welfare Act, 1952 (No. 11 of 1952), hereby makes the following Regulations:-- |
||
1. (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1971. |
||
(2) The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 to 1970, and these Regulations may be cited together as the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations 1956 to 1971. |
||
2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 15th day of February 1971. |
||
3. In these Regulations "new penny" means a new penny in the new decimal currency provided for by the Decimal Currency Act 1969 (No. 23 of 1969). |

4. The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations, 1956 as amended by the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations, 1967 and 1969 are hereby amended by-- |
||
(1) the substitution in article 4 (2) (b) for references to "one shilling and two pence", "one shilling", "2d", "two shillings", "one shilling and five pence", references to "six new pence", "five new pence", "one new penny", "ten new pence", and "seven new pence" and |
||
(2) the substitution in article 5 (3) (a), inserted by article 7 of the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) (Amendment) Regulations 1967, for reference to "8d" and "6d" a reference in each case to "three new pence". |

EXPLANATORY NOTE. |
||
The Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations 1956 to 1969 prescribed reductions in the rates of social insurance contributions where a person is employed on a foreign-going ship or a ship engaged in regular trade on foreign stations. The reductions are 1s. 2d. in the case of a male employed contributor. Is. in the case of a female employed contributor, save where the employed contributor is insurable only for occupational injury benefit purposes in which case the reduction is 2d. in each case. The Regulations mentioned also provide that of the total employer's contribution payable into the Social Insurance Fund, 2s. in the case of a male employed contributor and 1s. 5d. in the case of a female employed contributor shall be paid out of that Fund to the current account of the Occupational Injuries Fund. The Regulations mentioned also prescribed increases attributable to occupational accidents and diseases, applicable to established civil servants, of 8d. in the case of a male employed contributor and 6d in the case of a female employed contributor. |

These Regulations amend the Social Welfare (Modifications of Insurance) Regulations 1956 to 1969 by converting as from 15 February 1971 the amounts 1s. 2d., 1s., 2d., 2s. and 1s. 5d. to 6p, 5p, 1p, 10p, and 7p respectively and the amounts 8d. and 6d. to 3p in each case. |
